Highest Potential Setups for Thursday, December 19, 2002

Swiss Franc The March Swiss Franc contract has fired NR4, Inside Day, 2 Day ROC Sell, and 90-10 High Continuation & Reversal signals for today's trading. The NR4 signal tells us to expect range expansion and a pickup in volatility. The Inside Day signal is triggered when the day's trading range occurs within the range of the prior day. A subsequent breakout of an Inside Day's range typically marks the direction of the next trend move. The 2 Day ROC Sell signal suggests that today's principle trade direction should be to the downside. The 90-10 High Continuation & Reversal signal tells us to look for morning follow through on yesterday's strong close, but to expect a likely reversal once the initial move has topped. Cycle Indicators (chart at right) are moving into a region where short term cyclical tops often form, but both the larger and more immediate trends are to higher prices. The NR4/Inside Day signal combination tells us to be prepared for a large impulse move in either direction. Trade the break of yesterday's .7028 high to .6998 low range with a stop and reverse on the opposite side as the entry. Price action relative to today's .7017 Daily Pivot level may provide clues for earlier entry.
Lean Hogs The February Lean Hogs contract has fired NR7, 2 Day ROC Sell, and Low Range Close signals for today's trading. The NR7 signal is triggered when the range of the day's trading is the narrowest of the last seven days. It tells us to expect range expansion and a pickup in volatility with a likely breakout in store either today, or over the next few days. The 2 Day ROC Sell signal implies that today's principle trade direction should be to the downside. The Low Range Close signal suggests that yesterday's late day weakness should carry on through to this morning's trading. The more immediate trend is to lower prices (chart at right). Odds seem to favor the downside, but the NR7 signal tells us to stand prepared for a large impulse move in either direction. Trade the break of yesterday's 51.700 high to 51.150 low range with a stop and reverse on the opposite side as the entry. Price action relative to today's 51.350 Daily Pivot level may provide clues for earlier entry.
